Customer Types: Investment Grade vs. Insured
Klear supports two types of customer relationships depending on credit quality: investment grade and non-investment grade (insured). Understanding which category your buyer falls into determines how your invoices are funded and what documentation may be required.
Investment Grade Buyers
Investment Grade (IG) buyers have credit ratings that meet our capital partners’ direct-funding criteria (typically BBB- or higher from S&P or Baa3 from Moody’s).
How it works:
- Invoices from IG buyers are funded without insurance coverage.
- Funding is typically faster, since the buyer’s credit quality is already verified.
- Once the buyer pays the invoice, the funds settle into your Klear account.

Insured (Non-Investment Grade) Buyers
If your customer (the buyer) falls below the investment-grade threshold or doesn’t have a public credit rating, Klear can still fund your invoices through our insured program with Allianz. This allows us to support a wider range of buyers while keeping your cash flow predictable and secure.
Insurance Coverage through Allianz
- Non-investment grade buyers are reviewed and insured through Allianz Trade, one of the world’s leading trade-credit insurers.
- Insurance is buyer-specific and tied to the period of expected exposure.
- Coverage limits are flexible — we can request an increase or decrease them as your business volume changes.
- Funding timelines for insured buyers are typically 1-5 business days longer than for investment grade buyers for first time trades.
- Because insured trades involve additional risk protection, they are subject to a higher platform fee than investment-grade trades.
- Once coverage is approved, Klear can immediately fund your invoices for that buyer.
- Once the buyer pays the invoice, the funds are deposited directly into your Klear account, just like any other trade.
Note: The insured trade capability for non-investment grade buyers is available only on the Grow and Pro tiers. Customers on the Launch tier must upgrade to access insured trade funding.
